Palpitations are a common symptom experienced by all age groups.
Although palpitations are very common and often harmless, they can be frightening and sometimes indicate underlying cardiac disease.
Most often the cause is a few extra or unwanted heartbeats, but sometimes the cause can be a disorder of the heart rhythm (arrhythmia) such as Atrial Fibrillation or Supraventricular Tachycardia. These rhythm abnormalities can be treated by “Cardioversion’ or ‘Ablation’ procedures if necessary.
We use all the currently available devices to record the ECG during symptoms, including the new injectable ‘chip’ recorders (Loop Recorder).
